The I-CHANGE project releases its first policy brief, highlighting the critical link between air pollution and climate forcer mitigation strategies and citizens’ mobility behaviour in the context of sustainable urban development.

The Cookbook serves up an innovative menu of simple, effective actions that individuals, businesses, and communities can take to reduce their environmental footprint. Each ‘recipe’ is a step-by-step guide, complete with ingredients, preparation, expected results and variations.

This session at the EGU will be a key opportunity to highlight the role of citizen science in tackling climate change. By involving communities in data collection and environmental monitoring, we can promote more sustainable behaviors to mitigate climate change risks.

In an exciting new initiative, I-CHANGE is launching a free Massive Online Open Course (MOOC) on October 24, 2024. Our course, called From Awareness to Action: Citizen-Led Climate Initiatives is aimed at empowering individuals to take climate action through concise and practical lessons.

The activity aimed to engage the schools involved in a deeper understanding of how human habits influence climate change and the increase in extreme weather events.

This innovative, interactive and educational board game developed under the I-CHANGE Horizon project provides an exciting, hands-on experience that brings climate science and sustainability issues into the everyday lives of players.

On September 16th and 17th, the I-CHANGE project took a deep dive into these questions during two Dialogue Events hosted by Democracy X. These events offered a moment for community members, experts, and policymakers to explore the intersection between local climate resilience and individual action.

The presentation garnered great interest from the audience, who appreciated the innovative and interdisciplinary approach of the framework, capable of analyzing behavioral changes both quantitatively and qualitatively.

In the earlier summer months of 2024, members from our partner, the Climate Media Factory (that is Ephraim Broschkowski and Caroline Bertram) had the opportunity to visit three out of the total eight Living Labs of the I-CHANGE Project. What was the mission?

Looking ahead, the insights gathered from the water-temperature activity using MeteoTracker devices will be presented at the 18th Plinius Conference on Mediterranean Risks, that will take place from September 30th to October 3rd, 2024, in Chania, Greece.

The climate challenges the cities face are not the same, the cultures for working as a collective citizens and governance together are not similar and the local possibilities and resources are very different.

INSTIL invites research results from scientists who have invested significant efforts in the design and development of ICT-based tools, software, serious games, eScience applications and solutions to engage the general public in science.

A new perspective on measuring the individual environmental impact and encouraging users to take actionable steps towards a sustainable future.

The EIH is a data infrastructure that is being developed within the framework of I-CHANGE to enable easy, user-friendly access to the project’s data and analysis output. Moreover it allows for a feedback loop of the citizens to the project, thus supporting citizen science and engagement.  

The eight I-CHANGE Living Labs will organise a data collection activity for citizens for understanding how extreme events affect different spaces in the Living Labs neighborhoods.

During the last two years, the I-CHANGE project has produced a wide range of videos, and more is to come. We are currently planning a short documentary that will give insights into different Living Labs.

In I-CHANGE, we are creating a serious board game to raise awareness on local hazards and solutions to reduce them. At the same time, the game promotes active travel modes by unraveling the impact of our emissions on the environment.  

Living Labs are hubs of innovation, bringing together researchers, citizens, businesses and policymakers to test ideas in real-world settings. But for these collaborative spaces to truly succeed, they need a strong foundation – a local communication plan. 

The I-CHANGE consortium convened in Savona, Italy to discuss and plan the upcoming events in the eight living labs. A major topic was the dialogue events that will be carried out later this year.

To date, over 850 people have attended the Citizen Science activities promoted within the I-CHANGE project. Responses have been collected from the students and the adults to evaluate the social impacts, specifically the lifestyle changes towards sustainability, in the I-CHANGE Living Labs. 

The role of citizenship in the issues of environmental risks and natural events is extremely essential and at the centre of European policies. I-CHANGE project bases its citizen science activities on the participatory contribution in particularly on the collection of environmental data.

The Climate Media Factory (CMF) recently took part in a workshop called “Storytelling for the future”. One of the questions during a discussion was about how knowledge can be translated into action.

The dashboard is designed to explain current challenges we are facing in a changing climate including hazard such as air pollution, heatwaves indoors and outdoors, flooding, landslides, and storms.

Plenty of initiatives around the world aspire to contribute to social change towards more sustainable and inclusive societies. Within this global landscape, the I-CHANGE project stands out as a pivotal force driving transformative initiatives.

On September 22nd, the Danish Board of Technology was as a representative from I-CHANGE invited to speak at the symposium on citizen science in Aarhus, Denmark. Aarhus University, Central Denmark EU Office and ITK – Aarhus Municipality invited regional stakeholders to a symposium with cross-sectoral discussions of the benefits of conducting citizen science.

The communication designers’ job to make the information visually accessible and comprehensible to the audience. But the visual preparation of the content poses a few challenges.

In our research, we are working closely with citizens and other stakeholders of each of the Living Labs.

Where I-CHANGE use Living Labs to develop knowledge and engagement to be transformed into policy briefs, the KNOCA (Knowledge Network On Climate Assemblies) project focuss on citizens assemblies.

In face of the challenge to communicate I-CHANGE to a broader audience we are driven by the question: How can we crystalise the most important information of a project that is so complex when you don’t have an educational background in the sciences?

The I-CHANGE partner Techne Consulting is working in this field in the Tuscany, Liguria, Veneto, Puglia, Abruzzo, Campania and Sicily regions and collaborated with the Ministry of the Environment on biomass combustion issues.
