2nd Workshop on cItizeN Science engagemenT based on Ict soLutions (INSTIL

Held in conjunction with eScience 2024

16-20 September, Osaka – Japan

INSTIL invites research results from scientists who have invested significant efforts in the design and development of ICT-based tools, software, serious games, eScience applications and solutions to engage the general public in science. With this perspective, the workshop will focus on various aspects of citizen (e)science activities and initiatives, from the dissemination of science up to the active participation of citizens and stakeholders in the scientific process by co-designing and co-developing new tools, networks and systems to observe, validate, elaborate, and extract knowledge from data and models.

The general goal of the workshop is to act as a community venue to convey multidisciplinary experiences in exploring ICT solutions to raise awareness, engage and empower citizens and stakeholders in science with concrete eScience tools. The workshop will be primarily focusing on the domains of climate, climate changes and environmental related topics, but experiences from other domains are welcome as well.

Topics:

The workshop focuses on but is not limited to:

  • Novel citizen science ICT solutions, serious games, and more to involve general public in science
  • Citizen engagement through ICT technologies providing easy access to scientific knowledge
  • Co-design & co-development of ICT tools to engage public in the scientific processes
  • Citizen science initiatives and tools going beyond data collection and bringing educational aspect back in the focus of citizen science
  • Challenges and lessons learned in infrastructures and tools developed to engage citizens and stakeholders

Submission Guidelines:

The workshop solicits contributions (6 to 10 pages) presenting previously unpublished research achievements or eScience experiences and solutions. Submitted papers should use the IEEE 8.5×11 manuscript guidelines: double-column text using single-spaced 10-point font on 8.5×11-inch pages. All submissions will be single-blind peer reviewed, and accepted papers will be published in IEEE eScience workshops dedicated proceedings
